The New Excite E-mail System Sucks!

11 Jul

UPDATE 3: READ THIS AND POST COMMENTS HERE.

Update 2: Still with the suckiness!

Update: It still sucks!

It wasn’t broke. They “fixed” it. The e-mail system, to me, was always excite’s strongest feature. It loaded quickly, was easy to use, even had a fairly effective spam block system. It worked in Opera. I had no trouble loading it on my linux box. It even pulled up relatively swiftly on dial-up. Now…

Agreed. My wife and I both use Excite, and for days we’ve complained. It loads too slow, I can’t delete spam without opening it first, and it looks too much like Outlook, which I dislike. Thank goodness for Gmail.

This new format that came on all of a sudden wiped out all of my addresses and will not accept Emails in my inbox. How in the world do I get the hundreds of Email addresses back. This computer does me no good now.

yep, even Yahoo has me about to go permanent to my gmail account…I’ve had Yahoo for about 13 years now, and endured all the changes, but the last few months there have been ads, slow loads, ads, intermittent errors, ads, more spam, and ads
also, lest I forget, they’ve been putting ads on the page, drastically slowing down the page load, and really pissing me off…at first I figured I would be against M$ buying Yahoo, but if it’ll get rid of these danged ads…..

Agreed – excite mail has become nothing but painful, complete with useless functions and an almost unreadable layout. Not to mention emails now seem to take an eternity to even land in my inbox and pressing refresh begins an entire new drama to preceedings. It doesn’t seem to even open on Safari so why oh why did they even bother?

Glad to hear it’s not just me though!

I have used Excite almost since it started. Recently, I have tried to get to my email and the site keeps telling me that they haven’t replied, or it has crashed. All of my billing comes goes to that email. Now I have to start over with a different email provider and change over 20 accounts to boot. They should have left it alone.

Yes, I have been a loyal excite user for the past 7 years. This new email is terrible and I hope Excite will get the message that it was much better before.

Man, why did excite have to go and change a good thing. Now it’s slow with small text and has no options to change the layout or color. I don’t use the calendar and other new functions. I hope they fix it.

Agreed! Agreed! Agreed! Very painful experience trying to navigate the new Excite. And, to think, someone was paid to create this monstrosity. I would be grateful if I could do something simple like delete a message. Guess that’s asking too much. Notice I mentioned “a” indicating one. Considering their instructions to hold down control and highlight more than one if you so choose to, is non-functional. I first came on board in 1998.

Is there any way at all to get back the old excite email site? I really don’t want to change my email site, as I’ve had it for years? Yes, the new excite email is really, really bad.

Whoever the idiot was at Excite Mail whom authorized the recent “upgrade”, he should be drawn and quartered. Slow to load, slow to respond, with no way to grab the full header (to ID the Spammers behind all the junk mail), the new application is terrible. And there is no way to give feedback on the abomination to the Excite administrators. Goodbye, Excite, hello ANYONE ELSE!

Everyone I know who uses Excite e-mail is convulsing
with rage. While it seems, at first, to be “blunder,” it is (I concluded following my own tantrum), rather, an obvious decision by Excite to get rid of all the old users and use the Excite servers to go heavy on AD upon AD (they’ve replaced “pop-up windows” with “continuous banners”) in favor of the new users who don’t know any better. Trouble is, folks like me will NEVER AGAIN had anything further to do with Excite.

I AM AS DISGUSTED AS THE OTHERS ABOVE. WHY RUIN A GOOD THING? IT WON’T EVEN LET ME SIGN IN AS IT KEEPS TELLING ME THAT THE PASSWORD IS INCORRECT, THEN IT SAYS THAT THE SESSION HAS RUN OUT. TRY AGAIN. THEN I GET IT ALL OVER AGAIN AND CAN’T EVEN CHECK MY EMAIL. I TRIED TO FIND AN 800 NUMBER TO CALL YOU, AND NO LUCK THERE. GOOD-BYE. I’M USING MY COMCAST EMAIL FROM NOW ON.

This really does seem like Excite didn’t take their core user group into account. It blows my mind that a company would so blatantly fail to consider the needs of their user base. The reason so many have so much rage is that, like me, they’ve been faithful to excite through some pretty thick times. The last time they changed hands, the e-mail system went through some rough patches, but a great many of us rode out the storm, and once the minor problems were ironed out, our faithfulness was proved worthy. We can only hope that the countless complaints (There is a feedback option on excite’s website by the way) that are popping up all over the net will catch their attention and they’ll listen to us. We are legion, and if enough people make their voices heard, maybe Excite will learn the error of their ways and we will be able to find justification for our years of loyalty, once again.

I am in accordance with everyone else. My excite email was the very first one I got in and around 1997-1998. I used it mainly for anything I thought was dodgy as its spam filters I thought were very good in comparison to anyone that had a hotmail address at the time. Now its very slow to load, often emails suddenly disappear on the screen just as you clicked to open it. I hate the preview bit as its tiny and even on maximum expansion you would be lucky to see more than a line of text at a time. I hate the separate pop up window so that you can actually read the email as every time I have to maximise it. I hate all the useless calendar function etc that I dont want that take up most of the page and leave the email functions which is really the main function as a second class citizen. I hate…., Please Excite, change it back, the background has gone from black to white in the last week, so maybe you are changing things!

They were just trying to make it better…good luck to excite

Thank you, thank you, thank you for bringing this up.

I absolutely loathe, hate and detest the new interface. My husband warned me about putting all of my trust in EXCITE a long time ago. I have had several Excite accounts for over 8 years with no problem. It just so happens on the day that I had been expecting some VERY important email, it timed out continously and I lost some important “stuff” during the navigation. I also miss the full screen display. Curiously, they left the old sign-on interface. The trouble begins once you get “in”. I am usually docile and go along with change pretty well. This time I wasn’t. I sent them a few choice messages, voicing my displeasure. The new version does not seem to have been thoroughly tested. Whatever happened to BETA? I suggested that they offer an EXCITE “classic” version as an alternative. I now use Gmail for serious “stuff” – Nards

Found out how to get around the 16% stalling. Switched from Firefox to IE and allowed excite under tools, internet options, privacy, edit web sites, then double click excite.com, allow, OK. It will now load the application. Also you may have to go internet options, security, trusted sites, click sites, put in https:/*.excite.com and add, OK. Good luck, you’ll need it

Excite SUCKS the big one now. I was pefectly happy with what they had to offer AND IT WORKED… but nooooo they had to go and think for me – tell me I needed – something new – something they think is better – never mind what I think. Dumb F’ers. Guit trying to be the lead dog and enjoy the silent running of a smoothly operated web/email hosting – ahh shit – that’s the way it was. Never mind. But Excite still sucks and so it’s back to hotmail or onward to Gmail. Excite is now getting smaller and smaller in my rear view mirror.

WHY did they change the excite email? It is so frustrating! It takes eons for it to do anything and I have ended up sending many of the same emails to people because it seems to not be working and that is SO rude. Does anyone know how excite can be reached? There is not “contact us” on the excite page. Leave it to techies to try and improve things when there isn’t any reason but ego to do so!

I finally started to get the hang of the new email format, after it was down for days and wouldn’t load. Now, BAM! since Monday, every time I try to log in, I get a message that my password is incorrect. It is difficult to even navigate the website and make a complaint. We’ve used this email for a long time, and there is stuff in there i need. HELP!

Is it possible to set up automatic forwarding of mails sent to my Excite address to another email address such as Yahoo or Gmail?

I searched Excite’s help site, but it seems this service is not available to free email users. Has anyone heard differently or know any way I can do the forwarding?

Yes, like everyone else, I absolutely detest the new Excite user interface.

Wonder how long excite takes to complete the change (whether to the new or to the old version). The only change I notice is the background has changed to white instead of black but the new interface is very buggy. All my contacts in the old excite account are lost !! And clicking on the contact button causes my IE7 to load an Ad every second !!!!

Curiously, I haven’t had the loss of contacts or emails that some of you guys have had. I should count myself lucky in that respect.

I’ll give them one month. After that I am switching. I really don’t wanna switch since I’ve had the same email for 10 years.

I agree that the new Excite Email is unbelievably bad. You’d think they would have looked at the new Yahoo! Mail, or Google Mail, and seen what a good user interface and performance level are before they jumped into bed with their new Email partner!

There IS a way to provide feedback to Excite…in the top right corner of the Excite window, click the link to Help. At the top of the Help popup window is a banner ad from Excite that says, “We need your help. Click Here!” Clicking takes you to a marketing survey being conducted for Excite by “NetPromoter Customer Loyalty Program.” It begins with two questions:
    1) How likely is it that you would recommend excite.com to a friend or colleague?
A dropdown list lets you choose your response, ranging from “10-Extremely likely” to “0-Not at all likely.” Choose “0”.
    2) What one thing could excite.com do to earn a higher rating?

In your answer to Q2, tell ’em to fix Email. Give specific examples of what needs to be fixed. Don’t rant, and keep your response polite and professional.

Since Excite is paying for this “Customer Loyalty” survey, hopefully they will listen to what people are saying and respond appropriately. If not, after more than 10 years of using Excite Email, it’s “Bye Bye” for me.

Hi Everyone, I too am in agreement with the new Excite email. I keep hanging in there hoping that it will get better, but I think that it is just getting worse. The slowness is what just kills me. It is so frustrating. The layout is not user friendly at all, and does anyone use the calendar? Maybe I missed someone’s comment above that uses the calendar, but why would we want that tied into the email interface anyway? I am not an Outlook user, but I saw someone’s comment that says it looks like Outlook. Maybe Outlook has a calendar. Anyway, we all know that it sucks, and the above links that folks have left to submit comments are great. Since Excite is owned by the InterActive Corp, you may want to also send your comments to them. A nice page with all of their contact info can be found here: http://www.iac.com/index/contact_us.htm -Good luck to everyone. I will probably hold out for a while with Excite to see if it gets better. I have had my email with them for more than 10 years now, and I hate to drop it, but I will if they continue with this new platform.

The new Excite email is terrible!!! I had mine for many years too! I cannot understand why they did this. Now I am using Verizon and it is not thrilling me either! I liked the old Excite email most of the time. I can barely open a message in the new Excite system, and I had to install Firefox to even use it! Who is the brain behind this? I am glad that I am not the only person who feels this way though. Good luck to all. Maybe they will revert to the old system….

Oh you are damn right!!! New Excite platform sucks big time. I had been a loyal excite user for 12 YEARS. It was my first e-mail. I had to cancel. It was a nightmare. Shouldn’t they ask their users if we really want a new platform? well… like any other business company, they just care for more new users than the old faithful ones…

Wow!! It’s good to know that I’m not the only one who thinks it’s awfull. What the hell were they thinking? The interface is terrible and I can no longer use multiple tabs to open several emails. And the other programs that were added (sheduler, reminder, ect, etc,) are probably useless for most people. Anyone that actually needs this probably already has a program from work or school.

Hey, did anyone notice, that few days ago they changed to color scheme from that candy wrapper color to a white and light blue? It actually worked with Opera, until I tried to open an email and the browser crashed. Now, for the second day in row, I can’t access it at all, it locks up at about 30%, no matter what browser I use.

I’m all for bringing back the old way with added storage space.

When the idiots at Excite changed to the new format, I lost all of the sent messages and inbox messages, that I had saved. There is virtually no response to my problem at excite other than sutomated messages. I can’t believe this outfit will stay in business for long. The new format is terrible, unless you enjoy the endless spam, and the inefficient and very slow process to delete it.

WHERE ARE MY E-MAILS? I HAVE ALLOWED ALL E-MAILS FROM INFOCOM.ORG, ICIA.COM, ICIA.ORG AND FACEBOOK.COM DOMAINS AND I AM NOT RECEIVING NEW E-MAILS! I AM UNBELIEVABLY UPSET ABOUT THIS! FIX IT! FIX IT! FIX IT! FIRE BLUETIE!

You can send a response to “removed” and you can attempt to copy me at my excite account “removed”@excite.com

DID I MENTION: FIX IT AND GO BACK TO THE OLD E-MAIL IF YOU CANNOT?! THE COMPANY I WORK FOR PRIDES ITSELF ON CUSTOMER SERVICE!

    Dear Excite Representative,

By the way, I nearly forgot: (See additional comments below and the reference to the initial e-mail.) I would really appreciate a detailed response.

    5. I previously was able to open two instances of my e-mail account at the same time and now I am having issues with that, while one instance closes. (Not Good!)

    6. Vista was able to handle your previous interface and now I am forced to “allow all pop-ups from your site. (Also Not Good!)

    7. Composing new e-mails and opening drafts in a small, new window is also not desireable!

    8. Please allow us to change the color scheme as before.

    9. Where are the instructions or any notices about the additional domain we have been assigned? (I read the entire FAQ prior to submitting this message.) Apparently I have been assigned “removed”@roc2.bluetie.com
    (?).

    10. Have you seen how your e-mail saved in “Drafts” is spaced after it has been saved and re-opened? Who’s brilliant idea was this anyway? Who is in charge of yours or Bluetie’s quallity control?

I would not be adverse to being a beta tester for Excite e-mail. I EMPLORE YOU TO CHANGE THE NEW E-MAIL AS IT IS AWEFUL! Please read this entire e-mail and present it at your mettings and provide it to your supervisors.

06/28/08: The reference number for your submission is ‘080628-008148’

    Dear Excite Representative,

I was so looking forward to the new e-mail interface and services however after attempting to use them today I can firmly say that the new system is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE!!!

    1. It is much slower than the old interface and login!

    2. You have got to be kidding me: Bigger ads which I cannot minimize? Two adds at the usless login page? I really do not think I need yet another calender let alone “special events”.

    3. If I and every other @excite.com user have to look at these adds then allow us to use a pop mail service without requiring a “Premium account”!

    4. We cannot customize out view and the windows are very restrictive in the amount that they can be minimized and re-sized!

PLEASE CHANGE THE E-MAIL FEATURES AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND FIRE BLUETIE IF NECESSARY! WE NEED SIMPLE, FAST, POP3 CAPABLE E-MAIL RATHER THAN MARKETING CRAP! I work for an industry leader when it comes to customer service and support. Believe me when I say that “removed” knows the difference between providing services that entice someone to be a customer and implementing policies that create advocates for competitors services. If I do not see a change in excite’s new e-mail I will no longer recommend your services to my friends.

Prevoiusly Long Time Excite User, Sincerely,

    “Chilly Al”

OMFG!!!! The new e-mail is the worst computer junk I’ve had to deal with since working in someone elses office! Why can’t we at least opt out. I just want to be able to simply and efficiently manage my e-mail. I’ve used excite for several years. Now I’m seriously searching for another service. What a pain in the neck!

What a load of crap! When I click on email I want to go to my email not “Events”. I’ve tried to change it but it does not work. I have to sign in 2-3 times a day. Half the time when I send mail it doesn’t go. The pop up windows don’t always load right and it’s slow.

This is the second time this month that a web site was “Making Things Better” the other was eBay with their new beta version of My eBay.

I can not think of any positives about the new email system. It takes longer, the type is too small,
it’s an all day event to delete a message, and before the message is deleted they have to play it out across the screen. I tried their directions but I can not get a full screen to view a message. When I print a message I get a blank page. Even if this new plan worked it would still be aggravating.
WHY, WHY, WHY would a company turn a good thing into such a nightmare. Is this the old problem of new people having to produce something. Where was the watchdog? It did not need to be changed. It was quick and easy to use and even pleasant to look at.
Perhaps we are unknowingly a part of some psych research.

    another address to try is:

Thank goodness someone started this page!!!! I have been wondering for the last several weeks if there is anyway to write a letter expressing my complaints. PLEASE!!! excite people, can ya change it back to how it use to be-I am relatively new excite user and I really liked this email server but it is now all of a sudden takes to long to load, is difficult to use, and erased all my old emails-I need those! If anyone with any power is reading these-I think we are all asking if you can change it back to the way it was-We liked it, and now we don’t.

I concur with all the comments and, in fact, used one of the “feedback” links to send the URL of this page to the bozae (snotty suit-speak for “bozos”) at Excite. If they had any brains (HAH!) they would offer the OLD interface as the “premium” package and many people would switch. The older I get, the less it surprises me to find companies willing to ruin their product based on capricious pointy-haired whims. In fact, it seems like “New Coke” is the norm, not the exception. But it is certainly nice to find a site with so many spirited co-complainers! Good luck to everybody (and for those who lost their mail, sometimes it’s just hidden. You have to choose how many the new stupid interface shows in that little drop-down window. I thought I’d lost my mail too until I discovered that the interface breaks it down into lumps to show it.)

Have been a regular (daily) user of Excite homepage and email for 10 years. They took away the stock symbols and replaced it with Scottrade a few months ago. That’s when I switched to the My Yahoo home page for finance, news and email. I will need more time to change my email addresses in all my subxcriptions and accounts. It takes even longer now with inability to access the inbox.

If you can get in the inbox, there’s no view of the email message no matter how you try to expand the frames you still have to scroll and click (in the area) and scroll again, then you’ll see you’ve scrolled to the end of the inbox list of messages instead of the through the actual email body. Then there’s this HUGE column on the left that can’t be re-sized. Mine has one useless folder in it.

THe email interface is horrible. I tried it both in Internet Explorer and Firefox. It simply does not work.

23 days… That’s how long it’s been waiting for something to come into my excite inbox. Many many emails to excite, and blue-tie,, and nothing is changing. I have my contacts, and old folders that I created in the old excite.. and there is stuff in them.. but my Inbox is empty (wasn’t before).. I can even send emails out with it.. but NOTHINGS COMING IN… I really don’t know what I am going to do once (IF) it starts working again… I already have found a new email account.. and now I am so pissed I have been looking at other portals… Yahoo is not bad.. but I think I am leaning towards my.netscape.com

We’ll see what happens.. I am like others here, I have been using them forever, but the way they have been silent through the whole thing makes me want to dump em on principle.

It seems that Excite is doing a great job of getting rid of email users. I’m leaving as fast as I can (maybe this will give Yahoo! enough of a boost that gmail does not wind up the only choice in town).

I’ve noticed that if you have more email than fits on a single window then there is no way to look at the stuff on the bottom of the list. That worked fine on the old system. And as lots of folks have noticed, there is not end to the waiting on the new system.

I read on one blog that the new system is outsourced to bluetie. If so, that’s really bad advertising on bluetie’s part!

I emailed both Excite and Blue Tie – you even get to see pics of all the idiots at Blue Tie, and read their kudos – what a crock! I told both Excite and Blue Tie that a class action suit sounds good to me – someone mentioned that in an email on this site, and that may be what it takes to make them sit up and pay attention. I have lost my folders with literally YEARS of community development research (my parttime job), personal writings, all my folders!!! I can’t begin to say how devastating this is; they’d better be able to correct this, or there’ll be HELL TO PAY!

Has anyone figured out how to locate the spam mail that hides in the inbox because of the spammer puts in a weird date in the spam?

Back in the old excite format, you could do an advanced search for all unread mail, now there is no such option.

I agree with all the other posts. The new Excite email is awful. I have been using the previous edition of Excite email for years and was always happy with it. Now I will look elsewhere for email support – possibly Yahoo or Gmail.
With the new Excite email I have to wait for it to load. When I finally get in, I have to wait for everything else to load. When I want to read a message, I have to wait for the new email box to open. I don’t have the time for all this waiting.
    Goodby Excite!

The new excite mail system is terrible. I cannot believe they did this. Whay logical person actually thought of this and said “hum, it looks nice, lets do it”!!!??? How about some research people?? How about ASKING your customers before switching stuff! how about giving is the option of CHOICE like yahoo does between the old and new versions! I personally have 2 excite mail accounts and I have not received any new email for a while now. I have emailed them as I am a premium subscriber and no reply so far. They actucally did reply very fast in the past for other issues. A LAWSUIT sounds good to me right now, I wouldnt hesitate to get a letter drafted by my lawyer immediately and have it delivered ASAP.

I could not delete email from the trash.
You have to put in a support ticket.

    Problem after problem.
I can easily think of 20 things that I don’t like.

People should continue to send complaints to excite. They need to keep hearing it so they can make it better or change it completely.

The email interface went overboard on the web 2.0 look to the point it functions slowly on a broadband connection.

I am a long time excite user (9+ years) and now I am seriously thinking about using a different email provider.

    WORKAROUND.

For some years there have been available various programs that allow you to read your email and send email without a full flegded email client. They are usually refered to as email notifers.

One such program that I have used for some years now is called POP Peeper. It is Freeware!! It has a plug-in that works well with many web-mail systems. It can also be configured to interact with your usual email client. Until late June it worked quite well with Excite and has now been updated to work reasonably well with the Blue Tie rubbish that Excite now uses.

    http://www.poppeeper.com

If you do decide to use it you will find it will take a couple of email checks before it works with the Blue Tie rubbish. This will show up as an error with a suggestion that you try again in a few minutes. Be patient and do an email check in a couple of minutes and you will eventually find it works well.In the event that you get an error like invalid password or user unknown, you are likely part of the large percentage of Excite members who’s account transfers have been totally screwed-up. Once it starts working with your Excite account it should just keep working until the script kiddies at Blue Tie attempt to foil it. I can see a cat and mouse game developing between Blue Tie and the programmer(s) who write the Pop Peeper program.

Pop Peeper will allow you to both reply to and send new email, as well as delete the spam, in bulk, without even having to open it.

When I am on the road and usually forced to use dialup Pop Peeper works quite well even on slow connections.

At the end of the day though, I would strongly recommend that you all migrate away from Excite. Excite has made it abundently clear that they will be staying with Blue Tie’s rubbish. They are also well aware of the fiasco that they have created, however it appears that the contracts they have signed with Blue Tie are very longterm and I rather suspect that Excite does not have the various resources to get out from under the contract.

    Good luck !!!

I send an email to myself from Excite and it never shows.

In Excite I receive only spam (few but some) and some IRS subscriptions.

I don’t receive paid online subscriptions. I don’t receive email from friends that have been sending me email for years.

I have had my Excite email account since 1994 – at the beginning.

The Excite Webmaster does not respond.

They obviously have a huge problem but will not make a post admitting the problem and what plan they have implemented to fix it.

I can see a class action lawsuit on the horizon for these idiots. I have been unable to access my inbox for weeks now!!! It just stays stuck in loading. The only thing I have access to is my calendar and contacts. Does anyone know why the inbox won’t load? When you talk to Blue Tie, they just reroute you over to the Excite feedback line where you can only leave a voicemail. Now, what good is that supposed to do?

I think I will follow suggestions from others and start sending emails to their advertisers to let them know I will no longer visit their websites either if they continue to do business with Excite.

I, unfortunately, agree with everything you all have said about excite. vb’s comment about removing the stock quotes and giving it to Scottrade, really hit home. I also am a Gold Excite member for over 10 years. Being a Gold member, the “new and terrible” email service didn’t hit me until Aug 1 midnight. Same problems as everyone else plus I’m locked out due to error in password. I also needed critical info for a working project so I went to firefox. Since I don’t logout, I got in but didn’t get access to inbox. Gold members pay for 2 gb and no ads. New plan is 5 or 10 gb according to excite’s propaganda. My guess is if you are a Gold member and you have 1 gb (what non-paying members get), you have been downgraded to non-paying level. Time to complain about that too.

If you are using Internet Explorer 6 to access Excite Email, try refreshing the page to see if this enables the loading of the interface. We are working toward a resolution for this issue.

If this does not resolve the issue, and you have a firewall or similar security program, such as Zone Alarm, Norton Internet Security, or similar products, this may be causing the situation you are experiencing. We recommend temporarily disabling this software and trying the desired action again. If this corrects the problem, please let us know the product you’re using so we can look into the matter further.

If the information above does not apply, or the problem continues, please let us know, and provide as much detail about your computer system and how you connect to the Internet, so we can further assist you.

See post above about locked out ‘cuz Excite didn’t recognize my password.
I turned my Zone Alarm off.
I went into Excite.com home page in Opera.
I clicked on Email, got signin screen.
Put in user id, click on Don’t remember password.
Gave info and ask to send password to orig email address. Said it was sent.
Logged on and got my password. (Third time I tried, third time a charm). Returned to email, signed in, and finally after 3 days finally got my inbox. Looked at an email. Oops, still a problem, wanted to “Reply all” and Send. Nothing happens. Can’t send email. Well, 2 steps forward, one step backwards. Excite email is not ready for the big time; Needs lots of work and debugging. It’s buggier than a bug’s nest.

I;m a Mac user and it is definitely not compatible with Safari. I recently upgraded to Excite Gold so I can use their POP server; what a waste!! For a week now, none of my e-mails have been getting through to my contacts. Well, I guess I will be moving to a different server soon.

    Hi,

Has anyone figured out how to retrieve the Excite mail from a Mac using osx 10.3.9?
I am on the latest Firefox and it loads only to 16% and stops.
I have emailed Excite with no luck in responding.

If you have any info please please let me know.

In the meantime… I use gmail.

    Thanks in advance!!

Found a workaround, I think someone else mentioned it. I forward all my excite mail to gmail, then set up windows livemail to access gmail. The mail downloads quickly and I can keep my excite email address.

Excite just deactivated my account without warning, saying, erroneously, that it had been used in 90 days. Now, I understand, any email I had saved has been deleted.
Like others, I thought the email changes were a disaster, and was trying to move any important stuff out, but with little success.
I suggest anyone with anything important copy and save to a text document rather than try to forward saved email. Didn’t work for me. Oh, and I’d say better do it fast!!!!!!!

    To Walter Clark:
I just got the same 90 days message. But I put in my userid and NEW PASSWORD (I was forced to get) and I got in. So try getting in. This is excite’s way to eliminate all the old dormant accounts and the newly abandoned accounts. They say the 90 days dormant rule was in the license. Was it? I never saw it.

I got the same response. Now everything that I have on my sent box and inbox is gone forever. It seems that there is no way you can get into the new blue tie email system.

I have facebook, Yahoo Mail, gmail, and AIM mail. But people still send stuff to me there. I still have trouble forwarding my excite mail to my other accounts before this happen.

It better be gone forever and that Blue Tie start firing people tomorrow.

I’ve got the same “You account has been disabled” message. I have constantly used my account on daily basis for the whole 10 years of my account, so how can they say it hasn’t been used for 90 days.

Hold on – my password still works for the Excite homepage, just not my email. I hesitate to do too much right now, but do you think if I get a new password, my email will come back? I use it on a daily basis too…

It looks like they have completely screwed the email service.

I can get into my personal settings, so the system recognises me as a user (with the correct password), but will not let me into the main email system.

I used to able to block a domain. It would ask if I wanted to block all e-mails from that site or just that sender. It seems now that I can only block the person sending from that domain. So I have spent several hours going through my junk main to delete the sender and only block the domain. What if I empty my junk mail folder? Would I lose all the domains I have blocked? Also my filter was set at 10, they suggested 5. I changed that and now several of my known e-mail sites are being listed as SPAM. Please go back to the old system. I’m gone in a week if you don’t.

Excite changed the 90 days message last night so maybe you can try to get in with your old password. I just tried to get into another excite account and it let me in without telling me to re-register. Try again.

Here’s some info that I believe is very important if you continue to use this lousy “service”:

I emailed the geniuses at Excite about leaving the “Preview window open”
    Want viruses? Leave it open.
Also, “view next message after deleting” let’s you automatically open spam/virus.

    Preferences
After you make changes, be sure to SAVE !!! (click on green floppy)
Two VERY important security settings in Preferences:
    1. Preview pane: Off
    2. View next message after deleting:NO

    General > Regional Settings

Time zone: (GMT-06:00) Central Time (Houston, Kansas City, Chicago)

    Contacts > General Settings
    Viewing Contacts

Number of contacts per page: 50 (or your choice)
    Preview pane: Off

    Email > General Settings
    Viewing Emails

Number of messages per page: 50 (or your choice)
    View next message after deleting:NO

    Email > Junk Mail Controls
    Cleanup

When I flag messages as Junk: Delete the messages permanently
Automatically delete messages in my Junk-Mail folder: Never
Sender Trending (If this works, it’s a good idea. But remember this is Excite.com)

    Sender trending: ON
Sender trending tracks the SPAM scores for your regular correspondents, keeping a historical average of the sender and pushes the SPAM score on subsequent email messages towards this average. This feature assists in reducing false-positives (messages delivered to your Junk-Mail folder that should have been delivered to your Inbox and messages delivered to your Inbox that should have been delivered to your Junk-Mail folder). Pressing the “Reset” button will reset your sender trending averages and should only be used if you feel that your regular correspondant SPAM score averages are inaccurate.

    Reset
    Handling Inbound Junk

When a message is Junk: Add text prefix to the subject line and deliver to the Inbox. (Recommended for POP3 users)
Use this text as a prefix (second option only): SPAM:

    Gold Members

    Email > Forwarding
Forward all of your incoming messages to another email address.

Forward emails to another address: Yes or No

I can access OK on Firefox and all my messages and after a delay all my addresses have migrated OK.

My concern is that over the last year or so, more of my friends have been unable to reply to my e-mail, having their mail knocked back. This is even though I have taken off spam filters and added their addresses to be allowed.

Now, since the change, much of my mail is not actually being sent and ends up in my draft folder (I wouldn’t have know but by checking there). My bcc to my Excite address (as a back-up so I know it has gone), NEVER arrives!

    Anyone else with these problems?

Absolute disaster of a transition. At least I didn’t lose all my emails and contacts as others did. I would be very worried about security with this new system. Beware if you are using a public PC, when you hit logout it doesn’t really log you out. You have to hit the “I am not username” on the email login page. I have removed all of my contacts and any sensitive emails from my excite account (anything containing account numbers, SSN, Credit Cards) I don’t think their site is secure whatsoever. Yahoo recently opened up a @ymail and @rocketmail domain names so if you have been with excite for a long time (like me) you may be able to get your same user name using those two domains. Yahoo is somwhat similiar to the old excite if you use the yahoo classic version. Good luck everyone. I have been a loyal excite email user for over a decade but this had me spending the last few weeks moving all my contacts and subscriptions to ymail. Simply unbelieveable they didn’t test this.

I have only been on about a month, then I’m told I had to change over to a new address, things were going to just transfer over.I have just paid for various sites with my credit card. Now not only did I lose all my friends e-address’s but now I lost all of the things I paid for,and have no way to get them back! What a loser raw deal this was . Not just the money ,but the endless hours I have invested in this ,now I will not bother, to try this great waste of space & time. Would love to get my hands around the necks of the bastards who designed this POS, and the giant assholes at EXCITE who authorized its use. Can’t read the damned mail- tiny little window. USED to get all pictures sent at once, NOW- have to “open” each one, and when I close- kicks me out of the whole system! UN-^%^&*^&-BELIEVABLE!!
Can’t see a lot of emails at once so I can EASILY delete them. OLD system fine- I was loyal user for over a decade. Even though it is King Spammalot- and ID’ed as such by EVERY system out there- warns you to keep off. I stayed on! Because email was FINE, and everyone knows me there.
Too many glitches/problems to even begin to mention. TOTALLY user-unfriendly garbage! Programmers for this- HEY!! You REAAAALLLLYY SUCK!!

Yes, Excite’s new improved webmail is definitely a big piece of b#@sh##t.
For those of you who can’t log on at all, try this – in your “trusted sites” (under the Security tab of your browser’s Internet Options) uncheck the box that requires server verification and add the following sites:
    http://e17.email.excite.com
    http://registration.excite.com
    http://webmail.excite.com and
    http://www.excite.com
then under the Privacy tab of the Internet Options click on the Sites button. First, make sure that excite.com isn’t blocked and then add excite.com as an allowed site.
This should at least allow you to get to your excite mailbox and get all your mail and contacts info to transfer it to yahoo email — but I would recommend you keep these settings for a short duration!!
Do be aware that the fu#*&%%$ new improved Excite potentially exposes you to a LOT of damage 😦 Make sure you click on Preferences and change the answer from Yes to No for the Email item “View next message after deleting”

Have used the ‘old’ Excite for years. This “NEW” Excite email is a piece of crap.
You have to wait for the Email page to open!
You have to wait for your incoming mail to open!
You have to wait if you want to send an email!
If you forwasrd an email, the original email isn’t sent, but a downloadable file of the original email!
If you want to delete, you have to wait!
Did I mention what a “piece of crap” this new Exicte email is?
Goodbye Excite. It was a nice relationship for years, but not any longer. I think you will be losing many old and faithful customers.

“Your e-mail cannot be retrieved from the server. Check your internet connection and try again.”

No I won’t!!! It has nothing to do with my internet connection, Excite – Check your p.o.s. mail system and fix it!!!

It is not getting any better. There has to be someone from bluetie reading this, can someone post a message and tell us what is going on. Some employee must have left in the last few weeks, come on spill the beans about what is really going on there.

The old Excite email was much better, this new one is slow and requires to download one “application” everytime. Since my computer is not light speed fast, it takes time. Definitely, if Excite engineers can not give me an option to use the old email, ot to forward automatically all my Excite emails to other accounts, emails,
then I will have to stop using Excite. –

The only thing we can do is either complain until someone listens or change email provider. I have been with excite for 11 years and it really sucks that they did this without asking their customers. You can contact bluetie support here: http://support.bluetie.com/node/665
    and also, excite support:
premiumsupport@cs.excite.com (should be from your excite account).
If we all send a couple of messages to them per day, asking for explanations they will have to listen eventually.

Because it’s been so long, I’ve created a new email address with Google and have already let people know to use my gmail account. Today I attempted to cancel my Excite account and, interestingly, the page that I needed to fill out wouldn’t even load. I clicked “help” and attempted to email in a request for help and after I clicked “send” it came back saying there was an error. Riiiight. Not what a web based mail system should be. I am currently in the process of dumping my exite account after close to 10 years due to the poor user interface. I’ll vote with my feet!

Folks!! Here’s the solution! Under Preferences, select “Forward” and then click on radio button for “Forward emails to another address” Then in “Delivery” put in your new (nonExcite) email address. Then don’t forget to push “save” in the upper left-hand corner. Then all the messages sent to your Excite Inbox end up in your new email. I never have to open Excite anymore, and I still receive emails from anyone who doesn’t have my new Yahoo! address! I’ll close my account later.

By finding a new email service!! There are way better email services out there. I’m in the middle of changing to yahoo for my email service. But there are several more out there you can go to, a lot of people I talk to like hotmail.com and msn.com. I’m going to yahoo just because I already had a back up account just incase something like this happened. It takes a little bit to adjust but in the long run you will be much happier. Good luck to everone out there and make sure we send Excite to the DUMP where they belong… After all didn’t they just Dump all of us? Yes they did!!

EXCITE SUCKS NOW THEY MUST BURN IN HELL…
EXCITE SUCKS NOW THEY MUST BURN IN HELL…
EXCITE SUCKS NOW THEY MUST BURN IN HELL…
EXCITE SUCKS NOW THEY MUST BURN IN HELL…

EXCITE SUCKS NOW THEY MUST BURN IN HELL…

So do you think these ass holes get the picture yet?

  167. Internet Exec's Informed Guess

    August 24, 2008 at 10:21 am

I am an executive with a well-known website (way up there on Alexa). I don’t have an engineering background, but I have been around the block web-wise. I am also a long-time excite mail user, who’s giving up and going to yahoo mail as a result of this ineptly user-unfriendly “upgade”. Here is my best guess as to what happened, and what can happen (Excite and BlueTie, only you know for sure…but am I that far off?)

David Koretz, the founder of Blue Tie, has this idea for generating revenue called “Featuretisements” (roll eyeballs now — and here is the link: http://www.forbes.com/forbes/2008/0721/050.html )

Blue Tie and Excite entered into a revenue-sharing agreement (I’d reckon) where excite users are migrated onto the Blue Tie platform, necessary for Blue Tie to figure out which featuretisewhatevers to send us. (I recall the first month of the upgrade, where clicking on e-mail would open into calendar — the better to send me an Orbitz ad if I scheduled a trip. Sigh.) Excite, which is in the far reaches of Barry Diller’s InterActiveCorp empire, doesn’t have A-team managers, so, looking to make a fast buck and show a big jump in revenues, the Excite folks got suckered into the Blue Tie agreement without doing enough diligence on Blue Tie and its hosting capabilities. Excite also probably messed up on the contract, not giving itself an out to terminate in its discretion (or even for a good reason); my guess is excite is locked into this for at least a year (and given everything I’ve seen in terms of their poor skills, longer than a year). Excite MUST know this is not working (they are dumb but not blind and deaf), but contractually Excite is stuck. And Blue Tie sure isn’t going to let them off the hook — it’s not going to hand back 2 million accounts just like that.

What to do? If Excite had any sense of customer loyalty (and I’d wager here they don’t — Exhibit A: Featuretisements), Excite would just void the contract, dump the Blue Tie interface, and hope to ride out any legal consequences. But because we are dealing with scared B or C-teamers, my guess is that Excite will just hope that our criticism all blows over, and so for now Excite will do nothing.

Excite/InterActive: Am I wrong? Will you surprise me and do the right thing? Blue Tie: Perhaps one day you will knock on my site’s door. I will remind you (and our CEO) of Excite.

Wow, 171 comments! (Counting this one) I appreciate that everyone feels very strongly about this enormous blunder on excite’s part, but I ask that everyone try to keep the swearing to a minimum. On a side note, I would love to hear from any employees of excite or bluetie, just to see what their view is on this whole situation. Also, I encourage everyone to “digg” this article so we can bring more attention to the problem. There’s power in numbers everyone! And keep hanging in there, maybe things will change.

It’s true the new email at Excite sucks. It was pretty good before, but now. Ug. The interface sucks. And worse, I’ve noticed that emails sent to me generally take 2 hours to 2 days to reach me if they reach me at all.

Oh and contacting them is worse. I’ve sent four emails to them, three days later the emails return to me undelivered. They can’t even get their own email.

    I’ve switched.

I concur with absoluetly everything written here, this reminds me of how Song Online Entertainment treated their paying customers, i’ve been on Excite for 9 years and am truly thinking of moving on even though i don’t want to. But when you just want to check your messages and leave but are now stuck sitting there a half hour waiting for things to open, not to mention all my contacts disappeared – I can’t believe i pay for this hassle!!!!!

An open letter to a bunch of people who won’t read it & can’t do anything about it anyway…at least I feel better.
    ****************************************************
    Dear Excite,

After 13 years, I am leaving excite for the following reasons:
*Your new interface is exceedingly slow.
*I have lost several important emails and I am painfully aware that they are impossible to reclaim.
*Your new interface is an utter failure in the “user friendly” department.
*I cannot view a message in a full pane but must scroll up & down to read it. Very inefficient.
*There is no option to “choose all” in order to corral the exorbitant amount of spam I receieve.
*Using my has excite.com account has become nothing but painful, complete with useless functions and a virtually unreadable layout.
*Emails now seem to take an eternity to even land in my inbox and pressing refresh begins an entire new drama to proceedings.
*There is no longer a way to grab the full header to ID the Spammers behind all the junk mail so I am open to all manner of anonymous threat.
*It stalls out at 16% when it is loading when I am able to get into it.
*There is no direct way to give feedback on the Frankenstiein baby created by Blue Tie & Excite to the Excite administrators or anyone else for that matter.
*The frustration caused by dialing 866-362-8751 and hearing the condescending message with the hollow promise that all voicemails are listened to has given me adult onset acne.
*Emails suddenly disappear from the screen just as you click to open them.
*The preview bit is so tiny that even on maximum expansion you would be lucky to see more than a line of text at a time.
*The separate pop up window for reading the email is inefficient and essentially useless.
*The useless calendar function, etc is not value-added content. It takes up too much of the page and gets in the way of the basic function of excite.com which is to operate as my email inbox.

I could go on but it is a pointless endeavor, you’re going to delete this anyway.

I do not expect a reply, I know how busy you must be with the 2.1 million users you have all furious at one time. Hopefully you have learned your lesson about messing with things that don’t need to be messed with.

Not likely to recommend Excite to my worst enemy,

I’m done. It was real bad but it just keeps getting worse. The last couple of days I have a hard time even getting the email page to come up. I get emails that are 1-3 days old. If I want snail mail I’d just use the Post Office.

In the end I hope everyone involved with this at excite end up losing their jobs, you deserve it!

Things I LOVE about the new excite email!

    * I LOVE how you have to click three times to open an email. This builds strength and endurance, so that when I use real email like gmail or yahoo it seems so much easier.

    * I LOVE how the site takes forever to load. This gives me time to ponder the meaning of life, plus 10 minutes of other things.

    * I LOVE how huge those giant banner ads look next to my little email window. Impressive.

    * I LOVE how you have to control click to delete more than one email. Every piece of spam desrves its own unique attention; thank you, blue tie, for making us pay attention to what exquisitely crappy pains in the ass each piece of spam really is.

    * I LOVE how excite doesn’t give me the choice of which interface, “classic” or new, I use. Who needs the headache of deciding? Especially when I can enjoy the headache of new BlueTie brand Excite!

    * I LOVE how my emails take forever to reach me. This really builds suspense! Clever.

    * I LOVE how I don’t get a personalized response when I email Help. This tough love only makes me stronger. Thanks, man.

    * I LOVE how Blue Tie posts the management pictures, even though the horns, goat-feet and fiery pitchforks are cropped out of the photos.

    * I LOVE how right now I can’t even get the email page to open, giving me the time to write these comments.

Well, I could go on, but now I have to drive off in my Edsel, buy a few shares of Enron and have some delicious New Coke.

What a pile of horse manure!!

I just got done composing a little “love” letter to our good friends at Excite, and I find it laughable (if that’s even possible when using Excite these days) that on their own comment form, they ask for an alternate email! Obviously, they know they aren’t getting through to you on their own email server, either.

    What a crock!

ANYONE GOT THE SECRET TO CANCELING A GOLD SUBSCRIPTION????????

Due to this horrendous mess, I want to cancel my subscription so that I won’t be charged again when the payment is due in couple months. I don’t want anything to do with Excite anymore. Anyhow, I’ve tried the link to get through to use my PIN & cancel my subscription & I CAN’T get through! The link doesn’t work. All you get is an error message. If you go to the HELP section & follow the links to cancel a premium membership. . . . none of them work.

Do you suppose that they’re going to keep charging all of us Gold members when we cannot get through to them, or access our Premium Accounts, to cancel our subscriptions? I’m outraged! ! ! ! !

I’ve also emailed them several times in the last few days to voice my concerns & cannot get through to them. All my emails come back to me as “Undeliverable.” All I can say is that I better not continue to get charged for this mess when I’ve spent all this time trying to cancel something that I can’t cancel (not to mention the frustration, poor customer service & horrendous email service). It’s OUTRAGEOUS! Not to mention the fact that it concerns me greatly that they have my credit card on file in this disaster.

If anyone has the magic answer to canceling their Gold account. . . please pass on the info. THANK YOU!

My new email address is: excite_email_sucks@yahoo.com

My first email from it was to: wploeffler@askjeeves.com

He’s head of media relations at excite.

    I wrote to him:

Are you blocking everyone’s access to their credit card information so we can’t cancel our premium services or just mine? Isn’t that illegal or bordering on it?

Did anyone test this new email service before releasing it? I mean, besides some old, lazy, fat, unimaginative men who just count their money all day.

And is Excite purposely hiding? or is the same people who designed this email system the same people who made the help features useless? Did you know all emails sent to them bounce back?

Did you know this email system is the worst email system ever made?

How do I get my money back?

I am using Firefox three and IE6, I use to be able to long in, but now nothing. I am hoping it is the whole system and just not all my equipment. I am trying to log in and verify my change in email address to gmail, but I can’t even log in. Yes, Michael, I can still log in though it’s not as direct as it used to be. I am on a new i-Mac using both Firefox and Safari browsers. Firefox appears to work more consistently.

Also, looks as though the little mail that does get through is going to download over and over and over…another 30-odd copies of the same new email came in overnight and is still coming! It stops when I delete them all.
I hope you like gmail, Michael, it’s working a dream for me.

“TypePad’s antispam filter has flagged it as potential comment spam. It has been held for review by the blog’s author.”

My thinking is the guy should spend less time on his blog and artisanal chocolates and more time bringing his blue tie e-mail up to, say, 1996 standards.

    This is outrageous!

I am not sure anyone else is having this particular problem with excite.com email or not, but this is whats happening to my wife and I , due to excites new junky email update, my wife and I canceled our email addresses almost two weeks ago, or so we thought!!! we are still able to send email to those two CANCELLED email addresses and they go through with no problem. Not only that but MY account was a premium account so I was able to retrive my email through outlook express using their POP3 parameters, and guess what I AM STILL ABLE TO GET MY EMAIL FROM MY CANCELLED ACCOUNT, we cannot access the accounts from the website BUT we can still do it from outlook express, this means they tell you the accounts are closed but they are REALLY KEEPING THEM OPEN. we have called IAC 914-826-2000, the company that owns excite.com but they only have a recording and never call back, I think what they are doing by keeping the account really open is illegal, is anybody else having this problem?

Are you aware of the user backlash regarding Excite? There is a grassroots boycott against Excite, its corporate parent and its advertisers; I for one will be boycotting your site until you either stop advertising on Excite or Excite stops working with Blue Tie and returns its e-mail to its prior form.

Been an excite user for around 10 years. I really tried to give the new email a try. Figured once I got used to it it would grow on me. Trial period is over, I hate it! It is cumbersome to use, a lot of ‘busy’ space on the screen, and it’s SLOW. It is much more difficult to organize and handle my email, my address accounts. My wife hated it from day one, but like most new things, I thought we would all appreciate it in time. I would pay a premium to get the old version back!

Well gang, it still sucks. I’d like to call your attention to a couple of things. There is a program called pop peeper, that is supposed to work with webmail systems, but I haven’t been able to make it work fully with excite. It does send mail through my excite account, but it doesn’t seem to check mail. If anyone has some thoughts on this, please, feel free to post here. The other thing is that excite mail does seem to be working with Opera– somewhat. It doesn’t let me see more than 10 emails, even though there’s a scrollbar on the side, it just starts over and will let you scroll through those same 10 over and over. Oh, and please, take note of the “Digg this” button, let’s try to utilize the power of Digg to see if we can’t gain a little leverage on this issue.

Well, it’s been al little while now and NOTHING HAS CHANGED!!! I still have the same issues. Very slow, lost messages, not receciving any messages, etc…
I have gone at least 24 hours without receiving a single e-mail. Nowadays that’s almost impossible.

I use this for business as well so losing e-mails isn’t acceptable. I have since opened a Yahoo account and am slowly trying to use that one.

This excite e-mail is a disgrace.

Ditto to what Tim said! For the last 2 days I have been getting a server error message when I try to log onto Excite mail. How long has this “transition” been going on? It has been over a month and doesn’t seem to be any closer to being resolved. I cannot understand why there aren’t any mail updates on the Excite main page – wouldn’t it be nice to keep their clients updated on the issues?

This is worse than the switch to New Coke – at least the Coca Cola company realize that they made a mistake and went back to the original formula.

We have opened new emails with a couple different services and are trying them on for size. I hope the plauge of “New” email programs does not keep spreading! 🙂 And yes I spent days trying to get the old interface back and recieved all the BS form emails telling me I would not get an answer from a person, but my opinion mattered, yeah right!! I wonder how many users they lost from this “upgrade.” It’s definitely the worst upgrade I’ve ever seen. My two accounts have gone and now I only check once every couple of days for stuff I haven’t updated.

My husband and I have been excite e-mail users for 10 years. We too are fed up with the new version and are in the process of switching to yahoo. I waited it out thinking that they would improve it but getting e-mails 2-3 days (sometimes 4 days) late is just too much. Bye-Bye Excite!!!

Ever since you guys converted to Web mail, it went from “bad” to “worse”. Retrieving/Read/Reply new email is so
so slow, I just click on Inbox, go get a drink then come back and pray it comes up by then. Retrieving archive email
from My Folders is worse, it takes forever. Can’t you guys do something about it? I’m Enterprise Messaging Manager
for a Fortune 100 Company. If this Email Team was to work for me at my company, they would be out in the street selling hot dogs by now. Did you guys even do a POC or RFC before rolling out live? Your email conversion project is a total failure.

So frustrating that I have to say it sucks really bad!!!

I have used Excite mail since the old Excite At Home time and before. It had served me very well until Excite fooled around and changed it recently. Now, the types are small, slow to load and weighted down with junk. I have another account at Gmail which is much better, guess I will gradually move over there.

Over the last four days or so I have been successful twice as I have received the error message also. What has occasionally worked is to log out of Excite totally, maybe even quit Safari, Firefox or whatever, then open again at the Excite.com page, sign in, then click on e-mail after the home page has downloaded. Let me know if this works for you – it is inconsistent but has been successful on occasion!

    HI!

I need help transferring my address / contact information from excite.com to my new yahoo.com mail account.
I see that yahoo offers a service to retrieve email and addresses from other domains but when I go to the drop down menu bar to specify ‘excite.com ‘I do not see excite on the menu.

Someone earlier blogged on here that it was easy to do but can some please explain how to do it?
I am on a Mac using OSX.

    Thanks!

Many months has passed by and you STILL didn’t give us the Excite Email Classic back? Is this how you deal & handle things professionally behind your desks at Excite@Home? To us, Classic Email is the BEST. To you, we all just exist as pixels on your screen, nothing more. That explains why you couldn’t give a fuck no matter how often we ask you to give the Classic back.

Looks like you Excite inepts don’t know HOW to make things right. How professional of you.

I didnt know if I was the only one. I had been with excite for more tham 10 years. It was easy for family and friends to contact me and I used it for paying bills and getting receipts. This was where I would get my bills and pay them. Now because othe clutter I cannot even find them. I have had to move so many things. It is a terrible program to me. I wrote to excite about it, I doubt if they “heard” me.

So that’s why it’s not loading… I’m having to use IE to get into my excite mail now, because the “features” aren’t compatible with firefox. And when I typed in the address, I got the “we can’t find the page you’re looking for, here’s some suggestions.” I went: WTF? And used firefox. Who can’t find it either.

Apparently, it sucks so bad that we can’t even get the log-in page any more.

I sent them an irritated email when the switched. It’s bad enough with it so slow, having to look at each piece of spam, and double clicking to open every freaking email…but when emails are simply disappearing as you send them, or not even arriving…well, that’s going to get them in some hot water!

I only use my excite account now for crap. Because that’s what it is…

I’m going to keep my fingers crossed (though not with any great hope) that the “new” system is so bad/buggy/has so many complaints that they are down because they are changing back.

Sept 20 8:30 am, I am soooo upset. I have been a proud happy and content user of excite email ever since there was an excite email system. (90’s) I was such an easy upfront and user friendly service. I who used to be a people ask questions like what system do you use for…….? Well I am now embarassed that I had ever said to anyone excite email after this fiasco. Where they getting complaints with the old system? I go lo log in this morning (How long has this noose been around our necks) and I get this message
“Can’t contact servlet runner at 127.0.0.1:6802”
I hope the will lock at these message boards and just chuck this piece of crap. Otherwise I guess after all these years I will go to gmail. Unfortunately the more users that leave excite, it will be soon afterwards there will be no more excite.com

I’ve reached it – the end of my rope. Just got finished deleting everything from Excite, sending change of addresses. I went to Yahoo — I haven’t had the slowness problems with it that I’ve had with Excite – it seems pretty responsive, though the font could be bigger. Sent a letter to Excite customer service letting them know that they screwed up big-time. Doubt it will do any good since I’m a free user. Oh well. Sent them a link to this site too. Maybe someone will check it out.

I havent been able to log onto my iwon.com email for over a month now. Dont even have the option on the “new” system and when I go to “classic” I see an error that says “Currently experiencing techincal difficulties” -for over a month now, WTF? I try to sign in and it says “Bad username or password” -its the same as it has been for the last 4 years. I tried to reset my password and it tells me my “Information provide does not match that in our database” -sorry but my mom’s maiden name hasnt changed and neither has my birthday. I have sent several emails with an alternate address and although I get an email at the other address that says it has been received, I never get an answer. I have 4 years of emails, contact, addresses and curent mailings that come, err CAME, to that address. I guess all I can say is gmail, here I come.

Pretty much completed my transition to yahoo. Only check Excite about once a week now, soon will be less after everything is moved over. Still get all the same slowness and error messages. Seems like they are just going to leave it like this. There is a blog at bluetie where they hype this email system:

    http://bluetieblog.typepad.com/

But it hasn’t been updated since May. Don’t know if Jeremy is the creator of this beast, if so I feel bad for him, the program could be OK but they just don’t have the hardware to run it. Their system can’t handle this big of a program. Email interfaces should be simple and no frills…..like excite used to be!!!

I feel that the new e-mail sucks, big time. When it first started it took a while for my mail to show up, when it did my address book was missing. Then it showed up and I could respond to some of the mail I had gotten, however the outgoing mail was not received. Now as of this date, I do not have the address book and cannot respond to any mail that I do get, not even trying to reply to sender. What’s the problem and how do I get it corrected so that it is usable or else I will have to find another e-mail address for myself.

From the other side of the fence:
I run a community web site with over 17,000 members, and I probably email my members once, at the most twice a year. Just recently I had cause to do so with some very important information.
Nearly all emails sent to excite addresses bounced.
I have contacted excite with my concerns, and with the alternative that if they can’t find a solution I will have to put excite on my black list.
I came across this topic hoping to find any information because I really dont hold much hope of excite getting back to me.
I read above someone recommended gmail, yes it is good and I use it myself as it has excellent spam filtres, but I also endorse as a webmaster Yahoo, Aol, and Hotmail/Msn/Live. I just thought you might need to know this info if you ever register somewhere using your excite email address.

Have had no POP3 account for 6 weeks and have paid for Excite Gold. Cannot access any info or help, the page just freezes. They do have my card details but just cut off the account without any warning. All it says is SERVER rejects password for user…have been with excite for 10 years. Surely something must be illegal…will have to change and get a new email address after all these years.

I agree with the folks that stated that it was not broke so why fix it? It is now broke and I hope they fix it, back to the orginal dependable, fast, wonderful email that it once was. Did they establish a restore point, if not they just need to trash the whole thing and let us move on to the more dependable, yahoo, gmail, hotmail, and what ever else is out there. WAHT ARE THEY THINKING? You say what? They let the Junior College computer class write the software for the new site. Now that makes sense, works well along those lines.

But just trying to see my emails so I can change address or unsubscribe is torture!!! it took me hours to try to delete anything, now I know how but the f@@#%^&% floating window will not let me see messages!!!!! I used to recommend excite, now i am willing to knaw off my arm to be free!!!!
There is no, none, nothing on Excites web page to contact or send email. Even the media relations is a dead end. If I wanted to put a big money ad with them, i could not even find them.

Yes, I too have moved much over to gmail. It’s a bit odd that I get gmail for free, but am paying excite for “premium” service that is much inferior. I can understand that initially they may have needed to do some “fine tuning” to get things running, but it’s been going on for months. Maybe excite is intentionally trying to bail out of the email business?

It’s Nov 1st 2008 and guess what? The new Excite email interface still sucks, even more than usual today. I thought I read where Excite was going to provide access to the “old” Excite interface under the Excite Lite page: http://lite.excite.com/ But when I click on the email link from this page I get the error “You must log in to access your account. Please go to your login page, or contact your Administrator if you have any questions”. I’d like to contact my Excite Administrator over the head with my keyboard.

I have been unable to open the exite email page all day and I have tried it from several sources, Charter.net (my primary IAP) and AT&T (via wireless modem card) and no luck. It has been working crappy since they upgraded awhile back but I still use it, hoping they fix it. This is my primary email account and I am losing patience. I may have to consider another web based email provider and drop Excite completely. I am a gold member and it still does not work well. How do I oontact the webmaster directly?

I think they have flat gone out of the e-mail business. Not only can’t I access my e-mail, I cant access my contact list. Wikipedia says they are out of the e-mail business. However, if you send an e-mail to yourself at excite. com it does not bounce. So anyone who sends you an e-mail will assume you get it. Anybody got any bright ideas?

I was a programmer/analyst for many years and logic and user-friendliness were the driving forces in writing good computer code. Not so with Excite. How about this problem? Many of my know contacts in my address book are routed directly to my Spam folder, while real and annoying spam e-mails continue to go to my in-box. I notified Excite months ago – no reply. Problem still exists. Logically, if a person is in your contacts list, it should not go to spam folder. Just one of many such idiocies in the new and “unimproved” format.

Ok so at least I know I am not crazy! I absolutely hate this new excite system with a passion. I was blaming it on the fact that I live in a third world country. I was thinking maybe it was the network here but most of your complaints are very similar to mine. Why did they even change it in the first place. It is really inconvenient and I really, really hate it!!!

My wife and I also have had our emails with Excite for about 10 years, and found this new format/settings absolute rubbish. It’s so pants that I have compiled a list:
    1) Takes longer to get to emails.
    2) Advertising is anoying the hell out of me.
    3) After all the adverstising, this only leave 10% of the screen to actually view the email.
    4) Can only see about 15 emails at a time.

I have another email account and it is so much better. I have just decided to close my excite account.
    Unlucky excite.

Does anyone know how to get the “rich text editor” to load? I can read my incoming email, but I can’t compose or reply. When I try, a new window opens up, and in the letter part of the e-mail it says “Rich text editor loading” and then…nothing happens. Excite has not responded to my service requests. Thanks in advance for your help.

I have had problems all day with it, at work and home. Half the time when I go to excite e-mail icon on the website, I click it and it just gives me a blank page, I even thought maybe it was miscrosoft so I even tried to use netscape and it says Loading 3% then stops.
Wow, excite was the best e-mail server at one time, now I can see why everyone uses hotmail or g-mail.
Excite is pathetic now, they changed a good thing.

I have used Excite email for 5+ yrs. Now I can hardly use it at all. It just dumped an hour’s work and it was an hour because it kept stopping when I was typing the email. It really is no longer an email service. I long for the days of 28k dial up on the old, unimproved Excite email. This one is slower on 5.8 Mbps measured cable. I’d move my stuff off it but … it won’t work well enough to do this effectively. It often delivers emails without the content, refuses to send finished outgoing emails, etc. And I am talking 80+ plus failures in some areas.

What insanity is going on there. This has been WEEKS now. I’ve already moved some new things to Hotmail…and I hate M$…just to be sure I can access them. Any new contacts are going on another account. I may just have to abandon 5 yrs of saved emails and “burn the cabin” with my things inside as I leave. How can Excite stay in business? What idiot is running things there? If I had stock in Excite, I’d be dumping it as fast as I could get to a phone. Nobody should be starting a new Excite email account at this point, unless they are brain damaged or wish to become brain damaged.

The new excite e-mail sucks! It is the worst e-mail in the history of mankind. I can’t even get on to check my e-mail account because none of my computers have a browser that supports excite e-mail. What a freakin joke. Worst e-mail ever. What is even worse is that- they must get thousands of complaints each day, but pathetically do nothing to help solve the problem. I will celebrate the day that Excite goes bankrupt!

About a year ago my iwon/excite email went to hell. A bunch of emails to the excite folks followed and it was “restored” after about a week. The “restoration” was anything but satisfactory.
The one thing it does well is forward stuff. Get a new email account somewhere reliable and have iwon/excite forward your mail to that account.

I’ve used both Gmail and Excite for over 5 years (excite longer) and Gmail is way better fir free than excite for $24/yr. Excite used to be pretty good until they fixed it. Then it got worse, but for a while seemed to be getting better again. Now it is going down again. I sent an email (one word: Test) to myself at excite over 15 minutes ago and it still hasn’t arrived. Something’s just not right. I wonder if they are getting out of the business.

After 15 years, I’m throwing in the towel. I absolutely adored Excite ’til Summer of 2008 when it turned this highly satisfied email user into a maniac. I remember the series of email from Excite building up to the Upgrade. I thought, “How can this email system get any better? it’s terrific as it is!.” How naive I was. I’ve been waiting for the problems created by the upgrade to be fixed for more than a year. Doesn’t appear that it is ever going to happen. Earlier today the mail in one of my email folders simply disappeared. Goodbye Excite. We had a good run. I will miss you. You can contact me over at gmail.

Part of the problem is that over the last several years “Excite has gradually been eliminating different features from their site.
    #1 Personal Stock lists
    #2 Different weather options
    #3 Sports features(standings) etc

I could add more but im sure you all know this.

This pace of this has increased since 2004.

The old email they had was excellent. It had a lot of style to it as you could add sounds to your messages and really make it quite fun while having the ability of using it for serious business matters.

At this point I rarely use it as the time for me to get an mail message as a reply is at times over a day if I get it at all.

Its a shame as I was very fond of the site. This watered down” diluted version is a shell of the old site.I am just waiting for them to delete the next set of features.

Excite Staff since you do not answer my mails,,perhaps you will read it here.Very poorly done!

I have to tell everyone that excite doesn’t give a shit about your complaints. I recently sent a test mail to my excite account from my yahoo account. That was five days ago and it still hasn’t gotten to excite mail. I know the problem isn’t yahoo since I sent myself a mail from yahoo to yahoo and it arrived instantaneously. Don’t bother to complain to excite even if you can find the “contact excite” link. You’ll only get the standard auto-reply. Excite – once one of the best and now through a series of “improvements” one of the worst email service on the net. Excite is a digital example of the Peter Principle. They have reached their ultimate uselessness.

It’s not getting any better either… spent the last 2 days trying to get in excite mail and it just keeps taking me to the home page.
All of Excite’s stuff is getting questionable. They destroyed their sports section (which used to be pretty good). Birthdays and holiday’s aren’t kept up with.
And all they do is hide behind the page and make it harder to even complain to anyone about it.
Their customer service motto is “take or leave it, we don’t care”.

I can access my Excite account but get nowhere with bluetie. Haven’t been able to for years. It is so blatantly bad I thought the government had wiped it out or something to funnel everyone toward gmail. But, all the post just point to ignorance and greed.

I started my Excite account since the mid 90’s; I wish they’d just let me access our stuff so I can pack it up and leave. Email is all I used them for, I generated no click-ad revenue. Couldn’t you please just tell us old users how to access our “blue tie” email? I get the joke – blue tie – strangulation binding – so clever. Like “am I for 86… ru486”.

I am not inhibiting your greed; won’t you please tell us how to get back in so we can free up your storage space?

Iwon, excite and My Way are all crap sites and none of them are currently working to send or receive email. If you ever try contacting them, it takes forever for them to reply and they always assume it is your problem. I won has had a notice up for years saying they are having technical difficulties. All 3 sites are run by Mindspring, which either doesn’t give a crap or is one of the most inept outfits in the world.
