This is about 2 hours of work, split into 2 sessions. After painting and colouring, I ran GMIC and my Modern Cinema FX set at "feel the heat" to get what you see here. I’m trying really hard to find that balance between "too little" detail and "just enough."

Another speed-painting. Was testing out a new wooden mannequin, and this is the result. Punched up the colour a touch using my modern cinema fx filter in G’MIC. About 1 hour on this one.

This was a speed painting I threw together today over lunch. It took me about 20 minutes. I ran my own g’mic filter (modern cinema fx) to create an adjustment layer, slightly altering the tone of the original.

A quick exercise in the Gimp. I did it using techniques picked up from idrawgirls.com I’m fairly pleased with how this turned out for just an hour or two of drawing.

Inspired by an online tutorial, I thought I’d try my hand at painting a fantasy background. I diverted a bit by adding in the moss. It’s clear to me that I need to start devoting more time to practice.

I am pleased to introduce my new filter, Modern Cinema FX.

Like the simplistic, one-click filter, 60′s Cinema FX, the new Modern Cinema FX creates a new layer that is meant to be used as an adjustment layer. I suggest using the "Hard Light" blend mode for best effect, and the filters look best on well lit scenes.

The first setting, Blockbuster, is meant to emulate generic action films with a strong bias toward Hollywood’s favorite colours, blue and orange.

The second setting, Feel the Heat, is supposed to give the look of a picture set in the Middle East.

Cyberpunk-o-rama is supposed to give things that artificial green cast that computer related action films are known for.

Procedural Police Drama is more of a nod at TV crime scene investigation shows and their overuse of blue-ish lighting.

The filters aren’t sophisticated, but hopefully some will find use in them. You should just be able to update your filter and the new settings will appear under the "Gentlemanbeggar’s filters" section.
