Well, gentle readers, I have done something in poor taste, and as a result, I’m being punished summarily.
As many of you know, I’m a frequent poster on the website http://www.badgerandblade.com It is a community of people who enjoy the qualities afforded by shaving with vintage razors and using “old school” techniques. I enjoy hanging out there because there are a great deal of like-minded people who enjoy a good laugh as well as a good shave. Everyone usually enjoys a good joke, but sometimes things get a little bawdy as is apt to happen when you get a bunch of men “cutting up” together. Well, I am no exception to the rule. Sometimes, my sense of humour gets the better of me and I relax my judgement a little. I did so earlier this week.
There is a thread on B&B called “Picture Tag.” The way that thread works is thus:
Person A posts a picture of some random thing. Person B then recognizes some detail about the photo and posts another picture that shares a similar trait. So, if Person A posts a picture of a man wearing a feathered mask, Person B would then post a picture of a Peacock (Feathers being the main connection). It’s all good fun. Well, there have been various pictures of women in skimpy clothing, though nothing worse than what one finds in your typical “Women’s” magazine on the newstand. Here’s what happened:
Someone posted a picture of Jessica Simpson. This spurred me to post a picture I had seen earlier that day. The picture in question was of a model who bares a striking resemblence to Tony Romo’s girlfriend, standing on a beach, in a brown cover-up. The lighting in said picture is such that there is a shadow between her legs, makeing her appear to have, well, something that shouldn’t be there. I thought the picture was amusing, if not a little shocking at first glance, but I also figured that everyone was smart enough to realize that it was either a. a shadow from the back of her top, or b. the trunk of the palm tree behind her. I assumed that everyone would have a little chuckle about it, and then move on, letting the image fade into obscurity. Well, I was wrong.
Admittedly, in retrospect, I realize that my post was in poor taste. I never meant to affront anyone, and would gladly have taken it down rather than offend anyone, and I am sorry that I didn’t use better judgement.
I have been banned until February 17th because of my actions.
Do I think this is a little unfair?
Yes. I would have gladly removed the picture, had a mod or any other member asked me to take it down. Instead, I found out I had been banned when I tried to log in. The message said simply, “You have been banned for the following reason:
Time out for poor judgment
Date the ban will be lifted: 02-17-2009, 10:00 PM”
Now what bothers me is that mere instants before my post went up, someone else squeezed a picture in before I got mine posted. Actually, there were similar elements, so it didn’t really effect the relevance of my picture. What really shakes me though, is that the picture that appears immediately prior to mine is of a thong-clad, topless woman holding a pink handgun behind her back. There is no frontal nudity, but an ample portion of the breast is visible. That image remains, but “hermaphrodite Jessica Simpson” has been banned.
I just don’t know what to make or think about this situation. I do know that I will be registering with a similar website (http://theshaveden.com) that caters to wet-shavers and is home to many who have been “banned from B&B. ” I’m just not sure I can enjoy B&B any more.
