Updated 1960’s CinemaFX filter test

Via Flickr:
This is a sample of what can be done with my newest filter for the GMIC plugin for The Gimp. If you already have it installed, you should just be able to update your filters to have it installed. Otherwise, you can find the source here.

1960’s Cinema FX

This is an example of another filter I wrote using the g’mic plugin.

I was basically trying to make my photos look more like movies made in the early ’60s when movie companies were trying to compete with Technicolor. I also added a “Noon for Midnight” setting to emulate the look used in so many movies of the era that filmed nighttime scenes in bright daylight through blue lenses because film wasn’t fast enough to shoot in the dark.

Here’s the source file.

Plugin test

Plugin test, originally uploaded by gentlemanbeggar.

This picture is just an example of a filter I wrote for using in the g’mic plugin for the Gimp.

It was an attempt to make a lens blur filter that would allow you to adjust the bokeh somewhat. I’m quite pleased with how it turned out. Some initial experiments showed that it works great for making fake tilt-shift pictures.

Here’s a txt file of the filter.  You should just be able to rename the file or copy and paste the text into your custom gmic file.

The code:

#@gmic

#@gimp {Gentlemanbeggar’s filters}

We were losing light, and I didn’t have a tripod. These were the best shots I was able get of my favorite pin-up model. I think TWGW is stunning in these shots.

I just love the way that little red cardinal is poking his head into the frame in contrast to the beautiful blue in the little indigo bunting.

Now In CREEP-O-VISION!

For the 3d-glasses impaired.

Now In CREEP-O-VISION!, originally uploaded by gentlemanbeggar.

Playing around with a new 3d filter in g’mic. This is me, sitting in a hallway last Spring waiting out a tornado warning while the house was pounded with heavy winds. You’ll need blue/red 3d glasses to fully appreciate this.
